Vine Charcoal worked into glitter paper is almost like painting. When worked with a brush, the material turns into a liquid and facilitates easy planning. Marker adds color and form, White Paint and Pearl White Ink cause contrast. The mix of materials enables different representational rules.
Draw directly into the surface with Vine Charcoal. Use the eraser to lift material, controlling the perspective in this forgiving stage.
Use Compressed Charcoal to commit dark planes, separate forms, and formalize the ground areas. The eraser will assist in creating contrast and gradation. Colored Marker at this stage will help you see the image, but might dissipate over the process.
Make corrections and add contrast with White Paint. Some marker might blend into the paint or disappear. This step will make the image easier to see as you work.
Smooth out the strokes of white paint with the ink everywhere you want the colors to flicker.
Keep working the image with markers, using the texture of the paper to help blend colors and create light diffusion.
Use black and dark colors to finish the image.
