Why Shapes

When we externalize ideas, they are sat into an invisible hinge to convert the idea into a different form: words, drawings, photographs, methods, arrangements - these new forms are ideas as shapes in time.

Understanding shapes happens in one of two ways - we either recognize the shape as a symbol for an idea we have been taught, which I call “Artifactual Fictions;” OR some technology simplifies how we find or see the shape and we instantly understand it in action - which is called “Gestalt. “

Importantly, the instant understanding involved in Gestalt is the accomplishment of the artist or designer, not the viewer. The feeling of some shared idea should be interpreted as a provocation towards a mystery, not a confirmation of assumption.
